Introduction

This module will introduce you to the Horizon 7 Cloud Connector.

Introduction to the Horizon 7 Cloud Connector

The Horizon 7 Cloud Connector is a virtual appliance that connects a Horizon 7 pod with VMware Horizon Cloud Service.

Benefits of the Horizon 7 Cloud Connector

The Horizon 7 Cloud Connector is required for cloud-hosted services including Horizon 7 subscription licenses, health status dashboard, and Horizon Help Desk Tool.

Connecting a Horizon 7 Pod to the Horizon Cloud Service

Connecting your Horizon 7 Pod to the Horizon Cloud Service can be accomplished in five steps.

You will need Horizon Subscription Licenses which are covered in Module 1.

Obtaining the Horizon 7 Cloud Connector

The Horizon 7 Cloud Connector appliance (OVA) download can be initiated from within your Horizon Cloud tenant, or downloaded directly from https://my.vmware.com.

Initiating Horizon 7 Cloud Connector Download from the Horizon Cloud Service

Horizon Cloud brings all your Horizon deployments together, whether they are on-premises, on VMware Cloud on AWS, or on Azure.

Simply select Learn how to add On-Premises capacity to get started with your Horizon 7 Cloud Connector.

Deploy the Horizon 7 Cloud Connector

When you deploy the Horizon 7 Cloud Connector virtual appliance from vSphere Web Client, you pair the Cloud Connector with the Connection Server pod you want to connect to Horizon Cloud Service.

As part of the pairing process, the Horizon 7 Cloud Connector virtual appliance connects the Connection Server to Horizon Cloud Service to manage the Horizon 7 subscription license and other services.

With a Horizon 7 subscription license, you do not need to manually enter a Horizon 7 license key for the VMware Horizon 7 product activation. However, you do need to use the license keys to activate supporting components such as vSphere, App Volumes, and others.

Installing the OVA is outside the scope of this lab. Instead, you will focus on configuring the Cloud Connector to connect your Horizon 7 Pod to the Horizon Cloud Service.

Apply a Valid CA-Signed Certificate

For enhanced security, you can configure a custom CA-signed certificate for the Horizon 7 Cloud Connector virtual appliance.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that the full certificate chain is available in the PEM format.
  • Verify that the private key is available in the PEM format.
  • Verify that the FQDN and Subject Alt Name is included in the issued certificate.

Register Active Directory Domain with Horizon Cloud

After your first successful pairing of your first pod with Horizon Cloud, you log in to Horizon Cloud at cloud.horizon.vmware.com to register an Active Directory domain with your Horizon Cloud environment. When the registration workflow is completed, that Active Directory domain is the first cloud-configured Active Directory domain in your Horizon Cloud customer account.

Grant Entitlement

Once you have successfully registered your Active Directory domain with the Horizon Cloud service, you grant permissions to Active Directory groups to manage Horizon Cloud.
