Start the VMware Identity Manager Connector Install Task

This module will require the VMware Identity Manager Connector to be installed.  In the interest of time, a Windows Task Scheduler event has been created to automate this process for you.  The VMware Identity Manager Connector installer is a very basic installer that has minimal configurations to make, but can take a few minutes to fully install.  Rather than having you wait on the installer to finish, we have automated the process for you so you can start the install process and continue with the rest of this module.

If you wish to view the official VMware documentation for installing the VMware Identity Manager Connector, please reference this article.

The VMware Identity Manager Connector is an on-premises component of Workspace ONE Access that provides directory integration, user authentication, and integration with resources such as Horizon 7.  The VMware Identity Manager Connector is deployed in outbound connection mode and does not require inbound port 443 to be opened.  The VMware Identity Manager Connector communicates with Workspace ONE Access through a websocket-based communication channel.

1. Connect to the Conn-01 Server

Double-click the Conn-01.rdp link on the Main Console desktop.

2. Edit the setenv.bat File

  1. Click the File Explorer shortcut on the task bar.
  2. In the address bar, enter C:\VMware\VMwareIdentityManager\Connector\opt\vmware\horizon\workspace\bin and press ENTER.
NOTE: Remember that you can select the text above in the manual and drag-and-drop it into the console to copy-paste it for you!
  3. Right-click setenv.bat.
  4. Click Edit.

2.1. Update the setenv.bat File

This is not a normal step in installing the VMware Identity Manager Connector.  However, since we pre-staged the connector for you to avoid installing the full process in the interest of time, there are some script changes we need to modify to support the outbound proxy in this environment.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the file.
  2. Change the line from set QUOTED_PROXY_OPTS=" %PROXY_OPTS%" to set QUOTED_PROXY_OPTS=" !PROXY_OPTS!".
NOTE: Remember that you can select the text above in the manual and drag-and-drop it into the console to copy-paste it for you!
  3. Add setlocal disabledelayedexpansion to the end of the file.
  4. Click File.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click Close.

3. Run the VMware Identity Manager Install Task

In the interest of time, a Task Scheduler event has been created for you which will run the necessary executable at C:\VMware\VMwareIdentityManager\Connector\install.bat while you continue with the rest of the module.

  1. Click the Task Scheduler shortcut on the task bar.
  2. Click the Task Scheduler Library folder.
  3. Right-click the vIDM Connector HOL Process task.
  4. Click Run.
  5. Click Close (X) on the Remote Desktop Connection bar to return to the Main Console.
