Install vIDM Connector
vIDM Connector is responsible for integrating vIDM with On-Prem AD. Let's see how to install it.
Launch Connector VM
We will be installing the connector on a dedicated VM. From the Desktop of the Main Console, click on Connector-01.rdp to launch.
Open Start Menu
On the Connector-01 VM, click on the Windows icon to launch the Start Menu
Open Services Manager
- Search for services on the top right search bar
- Click on Services
Computer Browser Properties
Browser service or Computer Browser Service is a feature of Microsoft Windows to let users easily browse and locate shared resources in neighboring computers. This allows the installer to discover and aggregate the domains that are available for authentication within the network.
- Look for and right-click on the Computer Browser service
- Click on Properties
Start the Computer Browser Service
- Set the startup type for the service to Automatic
- Click Apply
- Click Start
- Click OK
Confirm Computer Browser Service is Running
Make sure the Computer Browser service is Running
Open Start Menu
On the Connector-01 VM, click on the Windows icon to launch the Start Menu
Open Network Connections
- Search for
View network connections
on the top right search bar - Click on View Network Connections
Open Ethernet02 Properties
- Right click on the available network adapter and click on properties
- Click on Properties on the Ethernet02 Status window
Open Internet Protocol Version 4 Properties
- Double click Internet Properties Version 4 (TCP/IPV4)
- Click Advanced on the new window
Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP
- Navigate to the WINS tab
- Select the Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP button
- Click OK
Click OK on the pop-up windows to close them.
Launch Windows Explorer
From the Toolbar, launch Windows Explorer
Run VMware Enterprise Connector Installer
- Expand Documents
- Expand HOL
- Expand vIDM On Prem
- Double Click on VMware Enterprise Systems Connector 9.3.0.2 Installer
OPTIONAL - Confirm Installer Security Warning
If you see any Security Warning, click Run
VMware Enterprise Systems Connector - Installation Wizard
Click Next
Accept VMware End User License Agreement
- Select I accept the terms in the license agreement
- Click Next
Select Installer Features
The VMware Enterprise Systems Connector is a bundled installer of both the AirWatch Cloud Connector and the VMware Identity Manager Connector services. For this lab we will only be installing the VMware Identity Manager Connector feature.
- Click on the AirWatch Cloud Connector feature
- Select This feature will not be available
Select Installer Features
- Click on the VMware Identity Manager Connector feature
- Select This feature, and all subfeatures, will be installed on local hard drive
- Click Next
Destination Folder
Click Next
JRE Install
The installer will automatically install the required version of JRE on the server. This should take around 1-2 minutes.
Click Yes to continue
Connector Port Config
Click Browse
Select connector-01 Certificate
- Expand Documents
- Expand HOL
- Expand vIDM On Prem
- Select the connector-01 file
- Click Open
Connector Port Config
- Enter the Certificate Password
VMware1!
- Click Next
VMware Identity Manager Connector Activation
- Select No for Would you like to active the Connector Now?
- Click Next
VMware Identity Manager Connector Service Account
Select Browse to select Connector service as a domain user account.
Browse for a User Account
Select Browse next to the Domain or Server field
Select a Domain or Server
- Select the CORP domain
- Click OK
NOTE - If you don't see all of the above options listed, you might be required to restart the server and come back to this step.
Browse for a User or Account
Click Browse next to the User name field
Select a User Name
- Select the connectsrv account
- Click OK
Confirm connectsrv account
Click OK to confirm the selection of the service account connectsrv
VMware Identity Manager Connector Service Account
- Enter the password for the CORP\connectsrv account
VMware1!
- Click Next
Ready to Install the Program
Click Install
The installation will take around 1-2 minutes to complete.
Click Finish
Click Finish to complete the Connector Setup.
Return to the Main Console
This concludes the installation of vIDM Connector. Click on X to return to the Main Console to continue with the remaining steps of the lab.
