1. Getting Started

Before you can start the lab, make sure you complete the following sections to ensure you can successfully complete the lab.

1.1 Pre-Requisites

To successfully complete this Hands-On Lab, you'll need to ensure you have the following pre-requisites:

  • A virtual machine or spare Windows device running Windows 10, version 1607 (limited management with Home edition, recommended to use Professional or greater).  DO NOT access the Hands-On Lab from the same machine you will be managing.
  • Administrative rights to the virtual machine or spare Windows device which you will be using to perform the Hands-On Lab.
  • A Windows 10 Desktop app (*.msi), such as Adobe Reader or Google Chrome for Work.  A sample Windows 10 app has been provided in the lab machine for your use.

As a reminder, DO NOT access the Hands-On lab from the same machine you plan to enroll & manage as part of the HOL exercise.  As part of the HOL, you will be rebooting this machine and will temporarily lose access to the lab documentation if you run the lab from the machine you enroll.

Open FireFox on the Lab Desktop. This should connect to https://hol.awmdm.com as the default home page.

1.4 Log-in to the AirWatch Management Console

  1. Enter your username in the "Username" field.   This will be the email address associated with your account that you setup in the VMware Learning Platform (VLP).
  2. Enter the password in the "Password" field.   The password is "VMware1!".

The following 4 steps of logging into the Administration Console will only need to be done during the initial login to the console.

You will be presented with the AirWatch "Terms of Use", click on the "Accept" button.

NOTE: Due to lab restrictions, you may need to wait here for a minute or so while the Hands On Lab contacts the AirWatch Hands On Labs server.

After accepting the "Terms of Use" you will be presented with a "Security Settings" pop-up.  The Password Question is in case you forget your admin password and the Security PIN is to protect certain administrative functions in the console.  

  1. Pick a question from the "Password Question" drop-down (default selected question is ok here).
  2. Enter your answer in the fields (i.e. "VMware1!").
  3. Confirm (i.e. "VMware1!").
  4. Input a PIN in the "Security PIN" fields, it must be at least 4 digits (i.e. "1234").
  5. Confirm Security PIN (i.e. "1234").
  6. Click on the "Save" button when done.

After completing the Security Settings, you will be presented with the AirWatch 8 Console Welcome pop-up.

  1. Click on the "Don't show this message again" check box.
  2. Close the pop-up by clicking on the "X" in the upper-right corner.

1.8 Finding your Group ID

The first step is to make sure you know what your Organization GroupID is.  

  1. To find the Group ID, hover your mouse over the GroupID tab at the top of the screen.  This may be shown in the form of the original email address used to create the sandbox.
  2. The GroupID will be displayed under the Organization Group name.   The GroupID is required when enrolling your device.
