Install the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector

Before we can configure our Identity Provider and authentication methods in VMware Identity Manager for the proper users, we need to sync our local domain and users.  We'll accomplish this in this lab by using the AirWatch Cloud Connector component of the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector to sync our users, but either component of the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector will work.

1. Connect to the VESC Server

From the ControlCenter Desktop, double-click the VESC Server.rdp shortcut.

2. Launch Chrome Browser

Double-click the Chrome Browser on the lab desktop.

3. Authenticate to the AirWatch Administration Console

Authenticate to the AirWatch Administration Console

The default home page for the browser is https://v92.airwlab.com. Enter your AirWatch Admin Account information and click the Login button.

NOTE - If you see a Captcha, please be aware that it is case sensitive!

  1. Enter your Username. This is you email address that you have associated with your VMware Learning Platform (VLP) account.
  2. Enter "VMware1!" for the Password field.
  3. Click the Login button.

NOTE - Due to lab restrictions, you may need to wait here for a minute or so while the Hands On Lab contacts the AirWatch Hands On Labs server.

3.1. Accept the End User License Agreement

NOTE - The following steps of logging into the Administration Console will only need to be done during the initial login to the console.

You will be presented with the AirWatch Terms of Use. Click the Accept button.

3.2. Address the Initial Security Settings

After accepting the Terms of Use, you will be presented with a Security Settings pop-up.  The Password Recovery Question is in case you forget your admin password and the Security PIN is to protect certain administrative functionality in the console.  

  1. You may need to scroll down to see the Password Recovery Questions and Security PIN sections.
  2. Select a question from the Password Recovery Question drop-down (default selected question is ok here).
  3. Enter "VMware1!" in the Password Recovery Answer field.
  4. Enter "VMware1!" in the Confirm Password Recovery Answer field.
  5. Enter "1234" in the Security PIN field.
  6. Enter "1234" in the Confirm Security PIN field.
  7. Click the Save button when finished.

3.3. Close the Welcome Message

Close the Welcome Message

After completing the Security Settings, you will be presented with the AirWatch Console Welcome pop-up.

  1. Click on the Don't show this message again check box.
  2. Close the pop-up by clicking on the X in the upper-right corner.

4. Open All Settings

  1. Click Groups & Settings
  2. Click All Settings

5. Enable the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector

  1. Click System
  2. Click Enterprise Integration
  3. Click VMware Enterprise Systems Connector
  4. Select Override for Current Setting
  5. Check Enable VMware Enterprise Systems Connector
  6. Check Enable Auto Update
  7. Click Save

6. Confirm the Save Successful Prompt

Click OK when prompted that the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector was saved successfully

7. Download the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector

Click the Download VMware Enterprise Systems Connector Installer link.

8. Create a Password for the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector Installer Certificate

  1. Enter "VMware1!" for the Password.
  2. Enter "VMware1!" again to confirm the password.
  3. Click Download.

After the installer finishes downloading, double-click the installer to VMware Enterprise Systems Connector installer.

9. Launch the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector Installer

Once the download is finished, click the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector Installer.exe to begin the installer.

10. Run the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector Installer

Click Run when prompted to run this software.

11. Begin the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector Installer

Click Next.

12. Accept the License Agreement Terms

  1. Select I accept the terms in the license agreement.
  2. Click Next.

13. Choose the Program Features to Install

  1. Ensure that the AirWatch Cloud Connector is set to install and that the VMware Identity Manager Connector is not set to install.
  2. Click Next.

14. Accept the Default Destination Folder

Accept the default destination folder by clicking Next.

15. Enter the Certificate Password

  1. Enter "VMware1!" for the Certificate Password.
  2. Click Next.

16. Disable Outbound Proxy

Leave Outbound Proxy disabled and click Next.

17. Begin the Installation Process

Click Install.

18. Close the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector Installer

Click Finish.

19. Confirm the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector Installation was Successful

  1. In the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector settings in the AirWatch Console, scroll down to find the Test Connection button.
  2. Click Test Connection.  Ensure the VMware Enterprise Systems Connector is active message is displayed.

20. Log Off of the VESC Server

  1. Click the Windows button.
  2. Click Log off to return to the Main Console server.
